The gays and girls of Folies de Mwah are going “mainstream,” venturing out of their comfortable nest, Club Mwah in Mandaluyong City, to conquer new audiences via special performances at Resorts World Manila starting next month.

Executive producer Pocholo Malillin visited Inquirer recently to break the good news. “Cris (Nicolas, creative director and choreographer) has been creating fabulous new numbers for the limited run at the Newport Performing Arts Theater,” Malillin said. “He has spent close to a million pesos on one number alone that involves a giant shoe.”

Folies de Mwah has been doing the Las Vegas-style gay revue “Bedazzled” at the Mandaluyong club for nine years. The show, featuring gay and girl performers and transsexuals, has been acclaimed for spoofs of popular Broadway musicals, including “Miss Saigon,” “Chicago,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “Moulin Rouge.”

Malillin said the new numbers being prepared for Newport included colorful and extravagant takes on “Sound of Music” and “Showgirls,” Madonna’s “Vogue” and Super Bowl half-time show.

“We’ll also have our Madonna in a golden chariot pulled by Greek warriors,” Malillin said.

Dates for the RWM shows are  Oct. 29, 30 and 31, and all Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays of November. Meanwhile, performances at Club Mwah continue. For schedules, call 535-7943, 532-2826 or 871-0013.
