President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday penned a message to the late Queen of Philippine Cinema Gloria Romero, calling her a “great lady with the dignity of a true star.”
The award-winning actress portrayed former First Lady Imelda Marcos in the biographical film “Iginuhit ng Tadhana” in 1965. Marcos played as himself in the movie. Meanwhile, the late actor Luis Gonzales played his father, Marcos Sr. in the movie.
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of Philippine cinema’s great icons,” Marcos said.
“I first met Gloria Romero on the set while filming ‘Iginuhit ng Tadhana’ and have been an admirer of her work as an actress ever since. She was always a great lady with the dignity of a true star,” he added.
Marcos also said Romero was not just a brilliant artist “but a very fine person.”
“The world of Filipino cinema and all of entertainment will never forget her,” he added.
On his social media posts, Marcos attached a short clip of his scene with Romero, wherein he told her: “Paglaki ko gusto ko ring maging kandidato.” (When I grow up I also want to be a candidate.)
