Dionela’s ‘Marilag’ is first chart-topper of IFPI’s Official Philippines Chart

Dionela’s “Marilag” is the first song to top The Official Philippines Chart, which was recently launched by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), as it ranks the biggest tracks from local and international artists in the country.

“Marilag,” which was released by the R&B singer-songwriter in November 2024, remains the biggest song in the country, according to The Official Philippines Chart. Other local songs that entered the Top 10 were Dionela’s “Sining” and “Oksihina,” as well as TJ Monterde’s “Palagi.”

Meanwhile, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s “Die with a Smile,” Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “luther,” SZA’s “BMF,” yung kai’s “blue,” Rosé and Mars’ “APT.,” and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather.”

Based on streaming platforms, the Top 20 songs that entered The Official Philippines Chart will be announced every Tuesday. According to a release, the charts will be based on chart-eligible streams from Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and YouTube.

“In accordance with IFPI’s global chart principles, streams from each market are weighted to take into account the difference in economic value between the free and paid tiers of streaming services,” it said. “This delivers charts which reflect the volume and the value of streams across the region, celebrating the biggest songs of the week.”

Other Southeast Asian countries part of IFPI’s network are Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Singapore will also count its top songs under its Regional category, while Indonesia and Malaysia will have a domestic version of its IFPI-owned music charts.

The IFPI will be working with the Philippines Recorded Music Rights Inc. (PRM) to ensure fairness in counting the country’s biggest hits while shedding light on the Filipinos’ listening habits.

“It will shine a light on the consumption habits of music fans across the country and provide an important platform to showcase the vibrant and growing local music scene,” PRM board member and Sony Music Philippines general manager Roslyn Pineda said in a press statement.

“Combining the Official Philippines Chart with others in a regional hub gives fans an insight into how their favorite tracks are performing in other countries, and will aid the discovery of new hits,” Pineda continued.
