And the Breadwinner Is…” had a strong performance in theaters as it earned over P400 million at the box office as of Wednesday, January 15.

The 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry’s box office sales was announced by Star Cinema and The IdeaFirst Company on its social media platforms, as the production companies thanked the fans for their support.

“Winner ang inyong pagmamahal at kabog ang inyong patuloy na suporta (Your love and endless support made us feel like winners),” the post read.

“Maraming salamat for the unkabogable love (Thank you very much for the endless love) as ‘And The Breadwinner Is…’ has already earned over P400 Million as of January 15, 2025,” it further added.

“And the Breadwinner Is…” tells the story of Bambi Salvador (Vice Ganda), an overseas Filipino worker who comes home to Taiwan, only to discover that the family home he’s funding to build turned out to be a failure. He was then involved in a sudden bus accident which had him presumed to be dead.

When Bambi’s family discovers that he is not dead after all, he is forced to pretend to be such for them to receive his life insurance worth P10 million. The comedy-drama film also stars Eugene Domingo, Malou de Guzman, Jhong Hilario, Gladys Reyes, Kokoy de Santos, Maris Racal, Anthony Jennings, MC, Lassy, Argus, Kulot, and Joel Torre.

The film bagged the Gender Sensitivity and Special Jury Citation awards at the 2024 MMFF Gabi ng Parangal.

Other entries in the 2024 MMFF include “Green Bones,” “The Kingdom,” “Uninvited,” “My Future You,” “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital,” “Espantaho,” “Hold Me Close,” “Isang Himala,” and “Topakk,” and was held from December 25 to January 7. The festival was then extended until January 14 due to audience demand.
