After winning Best Actor at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), Dennis Trillo is set to give back to the community as he plans to donate his cash prize to persons deprived of liberty (or PDLs).
One of the prizes Trillo received for his MMFF 2024 Best Actor win is a cash prize worth P100,000 from Playtime, one of the sponsors of the festival’s Gabi ng Parangal.
Despite this, the actor opted to donate the cash prize — as suggested by his wife and fellow actress Jennylyn Mercado — to PDLs, as revealed by talent manager Jan Enriquez on his Instagram Story on Sunday, December 29.
“Golden actor with a golden heart… ako na nagclaim on Dennis’ behalf and inabot sa akin ‘to in cash,” he said. “Inabot ko na dapat kay Jen [Jennylyn Mercado], then sabi ni ‘Bessie, i-donate na lang natin ‘yan sa mga PDL.’ And agad kong inabot kay JC Rubio na siyang may konek sa grupo ng mga PDL kung saan hango o inspired ang Tree of Hope.”
“Thank you for your kindness, Dennis. You truly embody our movie’s main message,” he continued.
(A golden actor with a golden heart. I was the one who claimed Dennis’ cash prize on his behalf, which was given to me in cash. I handed it to Jen then she said, “Bessie, let’s donate it to the PDLs instead.” And I gave it to JC Rubio since he’s connected with a group of PDLs that inspired the Tree of Hope. Thank you for your kindness, Dennis. You truly embody our movie’s main message.)
In a separate Instagram Story, Enriquez described Trillo as a dream artist due to his talent and professionalism.
“Dennis is a dream artist to handle. Very talented. Very professional. Parang kami dapat mag-thank you na binigay niya tiwala niya samin para imanage ang career niya. Salamat sa pasasalamat, Dennis. Salamat din sayo and congrats! Marami pa tayong aabutin goals para sa career mo,” he said.
(Dennis is a dream artist to handle. He’s very talented and very professional. We should be the ones thanking him because he trusted us to handle his career. Thank you for being grateful toward us, Dennis. Thank you to you also, and congrats! We will achieve more goals for your career.)
Trillo bagged his second Best Actor plum at the 2024 MMFF for his portrayal of Domingo Zamora in “Green Bones,” which also bagged Best Picture at the Gabi ng Parangal.
He also won the same award in 2018 for the film “One Great Love,” and also brought home the Best Supporting Actor plum for his performance in “Aishite Imasu 1941: Mahal Kita” in 2004.
