Renowned director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film “The Odyssey” will bring Homer’s epic saga of poems to the big screen and is set to feature a stellar cast including Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson, among others.
Universal Pictures announced the project’s title on X (formerly Twitter), describing it as a mythic action movie that will be released globally in theaters on July 17, 2026.
“Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026,” they wrote on Tuesday, Dec. 24.
Prior to the title’s reveal, the cast has already been teased by various outlets, which include Hathaway, Zendaya, Holland, and Pattinson. Joining them are Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron.
“The Odyssey” tells the story of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and his arduous journey home after the Trojan War. Odysseus: It features an array of characters who play key roles in the story, including Odysseus, the protagonist, his wife, Penelope, and Telemachus, their son. It also includes the gods and divine beings Athena, Poseidon, Zeus, and Hermes, among others.
The film is set to mark Hollywood sweethearts couple Zendaya and Holland’s reunion on the big screen after their work on Marvel’s “Spider-Man” franchise. This is the pair’s first collaboration with Nolan.
Meanwhile, Hathaway is set to work with Nolan for the third time after starring in his previous works “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012) and “Interstellar” (2014). The film will also mark the actress’ reunion with Damon, who also worked with Nolan in “Interstellar” and “Oppenheimer” (2023).
While Pattinson previously worked with Nolan in the 2020 science fiction film “Tenet,” Nolan is also producing “The Odyssey” with his partner and wife, Emma Thomas.
Meanwhile, Nolan recently earned his first Academy Award for “Oppenheimer,” starring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Emily Blunt. He was also recently honoured by King Charles III with a knighthood.
