There’s no denying that James Gunn is excited about Superman (2025), and who wouldn’t be in his position? James Gunn is exploring the long history and rich back catalog of the array of DC Comics characters associated with Superman from the Golden Age to the Silver Age. We are looking at multiple eras of the superhero from the 1940s to the 1980s, and it is a wonderful opportunity to choose anyone from that “Family Tree” to be part of Superman (2025).
To access that “vault” and see where each character fits into your story is important because, without the supporting cast, there wouldn’t be much of a storyline to begin with. From what I can tell, this has been a long time coming for another Superman movie, especially since DC Studios no longer has one with Henry Cavill out of the picture. Seeing David Corenswet in the classic colored blue and red costume with the yellow in the emblem is the confirmation everyone needed to know who the next Superman is.
The superhero’s costume is more than just an outfit; it represents a choice of clothing and wardrobe that is worldwide symbolic and known by practically every living human being. It represents something greater than one’s self. It is the responsibility of any actor to do their utmost to meet the expectations, tradition, and privilege of being chosen as the next Superman. However, that is where it all begins for the actor, and how he portrays the superhero is another matter entirely. Either way, being Superman places you on a very short list of actors who have taken on this immortal role.
Does David Corenswet have what it takes to be Superman’s alter ego “Clark Kent” and, more importantly, Superman? We will have to wait and see until we watch the movie, as teaser trailers and official movie trailers often do not reveal the whole story. However, they do give a good sense of what to expect from the film. From what I can tell, this will be a faster-paced, more adventurous, and more comic book-oriented film. While watching the teaser trailer, I felt at times like I was watching an episode of Justice League Unlimited, which is something I never expected. That quality alone in the teaser trailer speaks volumes if you can read between the lines of what I have just said.
I mean, you have Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Mr. Terrific—these DC Comics characters have never made it to the big screen before. The teaser trailer shows that, for the most part, they look like their comic book counterparts. Although there are some changes to their costumes, Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner still resemble what they should be. Mr. Terrific, on the other hand, is a complete representation of how he appears in the pages of DC Comics, which is awesome to see! Superman (2025) features a strong cast of characters from the rich lore of DC Comics, including his dog, “Krypto,” which is a direct nod to the Superman Family comics from the 1970s. These Superman-associated comics expanded his family with other super-powered beings who were either from his home planet of Krypton or from nearby planets, and they all have a cape and the Superman emblem on them. In short, they are one team under Superman as the leader.
Some have wondered why, every couple of years since the mid-2000s, there have been movies featuring Superman or a proper series of Superman movies. It is because Superman represents the ultimate good, morality, and justice in the comic book industry. Superman must always be present; many years cannot pass without him because his absence creates a void. This is especially true today, as comic book-based movies are released almost non-stop, with no signs of slowing down.
Now, the only thing left on everyone’s checklist is to watch Superman (2025) when it is released in our part of the world. If this Superman stands for “Truth, Justice, and the American Way,” his original motto, then DC Studios has a keeper. That is Superman.
