Nadia Montenegro’s daughter, Sophia Asistio, shared that she is now on speaking terms with her estranged father, Baron Geisler, but remained firm with her decision not to take the latter’s surname amid netizens’ comments.

In a recent guest appearance on “Lutong Bahay,” Sophia affirmed that she is proud of her current surname, which she got from Asistio, the late husband of her mother, and doesn’t see the need to take that of Geisler, her biological father.

“I talk to my dad (Geisler), but since I grew up with [father Boy Asistio], syempre iba pa rin ‘yung soft place niya sa heart ko. When I see comments na parang ‘Bakit ganito ‘yung apelyido mo?,’ ganto, ganyan. I’m very proud sa apelyido na mayroon ako ngayon. I take pride and kung hindi ko siya kailangang palitan, hindi ko papalitan ‘yung apelyido ko,” she stressed.

Sophia also shared that she hasn’t found the right term to properly address Geisler as her father, but is open to embracing a deeper connection with him.

“When I talk to him, I just say po, ganun lang. I’m trying to respect pero there’s still boundaries. I’ve tried na rin, parang second chance na lang din ‘to. Syempre hindi ko rin i-cu-cut off ‘yung ganung opportunity. Baka may mahanap ako sa sarili ko na mas makabubuti pala sa akin. Baka mas mag-grow ako as a person if may nakita akong, ‘Uy may similarities pala kami,’” she explained.

In July, Montenegro officially confirmed Geisler as the father of Sophia and shared that her late husband, Boy, knew about it and that they had a closure before he died.
