Maricar Reyes spoke about the value of taking full accountability with one’s actions as a means of coping with the “pain and shame” of mistakes amid the ongoing controversy hounding actors Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings.

Without mentioning Racal and Jennings’ names, Reyes took to her Facebook page on Friday, December 6 to share a brief advice on dealing with the “pain and shame of a mistake.”

“The pain [and] shame of a mistake can be the first step towards the best & wisest version of yourself. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Take full accountability, learn well [and] finish strong,” she said.

The actress-entrepreneur was previously involved in a video scandal with celebrity doctor Dr. Hayden Kho which was leaked in 2009, a moment that “destroyed her reputation” eventually leading to a long process of healing.

The seeming similarity in the actresses’ circumstances has prompted netizens and fans to draw parallelism between them.

Reyes eventually spoke about how she healed from the controversy in a tell-all book in 2022, which she clarified is not a “Maritess chismis book.”

“No embarrassing details were revealed here about any specific person. This book focuses only on Maricar’s long journey and process of healing. Maricar wants to let women know that they are not alone in their struggles. There is always hope and a way out of any dark situation,” the book’s website read.

Racal and Jennings made headlines after screenshots of their alleged intimate conversations were posted by the actor’s non-showbiz ex-girlfriend Jamela Villanueva on her Instagram Stories.

The onscreen couple addressed the controversy in separate video statements, with Racal claiming that Jennings led her to believe that he was single when they pursued their romantic dalliance.

Jennings, meanwhile, apologized to Racal and Villanueva in a separate statement via a 22-second video.
