SB19’s ‘Mapa,’ ‘Nyebe’ featured in ‘And the Breadwinner Is…,’ ‘Green Bones’
Another milestone is crossed off SB19’s list after their ballads “Mapa” and “Nyebe” were selected as the theme songs of the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entries “And the Breadwinner Is…” and “Green Bones.”
The Star Cinema film — which stars Vice Ganda, Eugene Domingo, Maris Racal, Anthony Jennings and Gladys Reyes — featured the SB19 ballad in its teaser, which was uploaded on its YouTube channel last October.
The teaser featured “Mapa’s” opening vocals and chorus while scenes showed its central character Bambi (Vice Ganda) dealing with the hardships of being the family’s breadwinner.
The Jun Robles Lana-helmed film centers on an overseas Filipino worker named Bambi (Vice Ganda) who works in Taiwan to sustain his family’s needs. After providing money to rebuild his family’s home, he’s heartbroken after returning to a house in disarray.

The Zig Dulay-helmed movie stars Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid and tells the story of a criminal and prison guard mourning over his sister’s death. Prior to her death, the guard’s late sister was against the criminal’s liberty for some undisclosed reason.
“Mapa” is one of the pre-release singles of SB19’s EP “Pagsibol,” which was released in 2021. The ballad, which revolves around the persona’s love for their parents, was written by the group’s chief songwriter, Pablo, and co-produced with Jay Durias and Simon Servida.
Meanwhile, “Nyebe” was first unveiled on Pablo’s Soundcloud page in 2020, and was eventually released two years later. According to the “Butata” singer, it is a track that brings life to “warmth, longing, and sadness.”
SB19’s Justin said in a September 2023 media con that the group was already planning to have their “songs be featured in series and movies,” as a way of promoting their music to the public.
