The “How to Train Your Dragon” live action has begun to excite its loyal fans after unveiling its official poster and trailer that reimagined key moments from the beloved 2010 animated film of the same name.

Released on Wednesday, Nov. 20, the trailer opens by introducing the audience to Mason Thames, who takes on the role of Hiccup. Gerard Butler’s appearance, who reprises his role as Stoick the Vast, also adds familiarity to the first glance.

But what keeps the audience nostalgic is how the trailer faithfully recreates Hiccup and Toothless’ first meeting, the scene that shows the depth of a newfound connection between a boy who chooses to spare a dragon’s life.

Meanwhile, the official poster for the live-action showcases a cinematic look that captures the essence of the animated film. It features a visually stunning moment where Hiccup stands at the edge of a cliff as he affectionately touches Toothless’ head.

Upon its release 14 years ago, the animated version of “How to Train Your Dragon” has captivated global audiences after it grossed more than $1.6 billion at the global box office and earned four Academy Award nominations.

Three-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois, the filmmaker behind the original “How to Train Your Dragon” trilogy, returns to direct the live-action adaptation.

Aside from Thames and Butler, the live action will also feature Nico Parker as Astrid, Hiccup’s love interest; Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch, the blacksmith who mentors Hiccup; and Julian Dennison as Fishlegs Ingerman, a young dragon lover and one of Hiccup’s friends.

The rest of the ensemble includes Gabriel Howell as Snotlout Jorgenson, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut Thorston, Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut Thorston, and TikTok star-turned-actress Ruth Codd as Phlegma the Fierce.
