While it’s been 19 years since Sam Milby first entered show business, he admitted that there was a point in his career where he wondered if there is more to his career, or he is already what can be considered a has-been, or “laos” in showbiz parlance. But the actor said it was something he eventually came to terms with.

In a press conference for his contract signing with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic, Milby said being in the entertainment industry is not a stable career, a fact that celebrities need to accept.

“It’s something that you have to accept. Showbiz, sadly, is not a very stable job compared to others. You can have your successful [run], ‘yung sobrang ganda ng shows mo (you have a good set of projects), and after two years, wala ka nang trabaho (you don’t have any work). It happens,” he said.

The actor-singer then cited the cast of the 2009 musical show “Glee,” which was a hit during its time of airing. However, not every cast member had successful follow-up projects.

“Looking at Hollywood, ‘Glee’ was such a successful show but not a lot of actors had a follow-up after that. So, that’s why being here for the contract signing, I feel blessed because I’m [still] going to be here,” said Milby.

“But it (leaving showbiz) is something that I understand will happen. You have your peak and sometimes you feel like you’re in survival mode. But I’m so blessed right now,” he continued.

Milby admitted that the thoughts of being “laos” would cross his mind when he doesn’t have work. But since he’s working on the upcoming drama “Saving Grace,” a concert tour, and a new film, he has no time to ponder on such thoughts.

“It’s something na normally nangyayari [when] you don’t have work. But since I’m so busy, it’s something that’s not worrying me at the moment,” he said. “But kapag tapos na [ang mga] ‘yun and wala akong ginagawa, mararamdaman ko ‘yung tengga or in-between (But when those projects are done and I’m not doing anything, I will feel lost). It crosses my mind.”
