“Saving Grace,” a Filipino adaptation of the Japanese drama “Mother” which stars Julia Montes, will be available for streaming on November 28.

Its airdate was confirmed in a streaming platform’s press statement, and it will consist of 14 episodes. Joining Montes are Sharon Cuneta, Janice de Belen, Sam Milby, Christian Bables, Jennica Garcia, and child star Zia Grace.

“Saving Grace” tells the story of a school teacher (Montes) who kidnaps her student, Mary Grace (Grace), in an effort to save her from her abusive parents (Bables and Garcia).

Meanwhile, Cuneta will take on the role of Montes’ biological mother in the series, while de Belen will portray the adoptive mother of Montes’ character.

The series will be co-directed by FM Reyes and Dolly Dulu, with both filmmakers reiterating that the drama will portray the “emotional intensity” of a mother’s sacrifice from a Filipino perspective.

“It’s a story that challenges our sense of right and wrong. Julia’s character does something most people would consider unthinkable, yet we empathize with her,” Reyes said in a statement. “It’s about love, sacrifice, and the impossible choices people must make for those they care about. I believe this is a narrative that will resonate with audiences worldwide.”

Meanwhile, Dulu sang praises for the onscreen chemistry between Montes and Grace, noting their abilities to portray the relationship between a mother and a child.

“We are particularly proud of how Zia Grace, in her debut, gives such an emotionally charged performance as Mary Grace. The chemistry between her and Julia Montes is truly special, and we hope this connection resonates with global audiences,” Dulu said.

Montes’ teleserye comeback was confirmed by ABS-CBN’s Dreamscape Entertainment in July 2024. It is said to be one of the projects that the late Deo Endrinal approved before his death in February of this year.

“Saving Grace” is the 10th adaptation of the 2010 Japanese drama “Mother.” It was adopted in China, France, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, and Ukraine.
