Through the years, 7-Eleven has placed convenience, comfort, and community at the core of its service. As it strengthens its presence in the hearts of Filipinos, the brand is connecting with the community through a story that tugs at the heartstrings. In celebration of its 40th anniversary, the convenience giant presents its first-ever storytelling video, Laging Kasama. Viewers, too, should expect no less from the artistry of Director Victor Villanueva, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the indie hit Patay na si Hesus, featuring Cannes Film Festival Awardee Jaclyn Jose.
Sounds interesting? Here are even more reasons why everyone shouldn’t miss this video.
A heartwarming story of noteworthy life lessons
The video follows the simple life of Tatay Albert and Raymart, exploring the love, sacrifices, and complexities of their father-son relationship. Every child’s superhero often starts with a parental figure, and in this case, Raymart (played by Lucas Martin and Jeremy Mayores) sees his dad as one—until he realizes that even heroes, too, find themselves struggling. Raymart’s childhood tells how he can always rely on his father to create the best moments in the simplest ways, like bonding at their favorite 7-Eleven spot or cheering for him at a basketball game. However, the realities of life bring challenges to their relationship as Tatay Albert loses his job, straining their once fairytale-like connection. By depicting the challenges of a working-class family, the story makes viewers realize that tough times can drive even the strongest relationships apart.
How Tatay Albert’s character shows the ultimate sacrifices of a parent
Even when times are rough, Tatay Albert, starred by Benjie Belena, makes himself present with love, support, and a playful spirit—describing fatherhood that is emotionally expressive. This role exactly captures the hard truths of being a parent, juggling responsibilities at home, and dedicating himself for Raymart’s sake through working hard to the point of taking multiple jobs every single day. Albeit confusing from a child’s point of view, Tatay Albert expresses his unconditional love in the way he knows best even if Raymart couldn’t see it as an act of affection at first.
Realities of adulthood through Raymart’s POV
Growing up isn’t always easy, and Raymart’s journey through college and work shows just how challenging it can be. “Mahirap palang pagsabayin ang buhay at paghahanap-buhay,” he says. As Raymart goes through the complexities of adulthood himself, he realizes the importance of showing up as well, and how Tatay Albert tried his best despite the challenges. And in today’s digital age, it shows that even a quick video call between loved ones can bridge any distance.
7-Eleven, after all, is a universal experience of Filipinos
The gesture of the main characters splitting a 7-Fresh Siopao, munching on Big Bite Hotdog and Busog Meal, drinking GULP or City Cafe, and getting Crunch Time for dinner symbolizes that at some point in life, everyone has had their own fond experience at 7-Eleven. One of the memorable lines—“Ano? Dating gawi?”—goes to show that many ordinary people enter the 7-Eleven stores for comfort and familiarity. Whether spent with family, friends, or loved ones, every Filipino carries a special memory tied to this iconic store.
Far more than the success the brand upholds with its 40 years of service, this milestone also goes out to all the Filipinos who have cried, laughed, loved, and so much more in its stores. With Laging Kasama as a gesture of capturing just that, Tatay Albert and Raymart’s relationship is 7-Eleven’s way of saying that no matter what one needs, 7-Eleven ang lagi mong kasama.
Laging Kasama is now available to watch via Youtube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
