Jake Gyllenhall: He asked for it, he got it

LOS ANGELES—Oscar-nominated US actor Jake Gyllenhaal witnessed a gang fight in Los Angeles when he joined the city police riding along with the cops as research for a new film, the LAPD said on Thursday.

Gyllenhaal, star of “Brokeback Mountain” and “Prince of Persia,” and actor Michael Peña are preparing for the coming film, “End of Watch,” which deals with a friendship between two police officers.

They decided to get up close and personal with Los Angeles police by joining the department to watch cops at work. But on Wednesday, they got a taste of reality when they witnessed a real-life gang fight.

It’s a date!

LOS ANGELES—Marine Sgt. Scott Moore has a big date coming up when he returns from military service in Afghanistan.

The data systems technician gained fame—and apparently a date with actress Mila Kunis—when he posted a video on YouTube last week inviting the “Black Swan” star to accompany him to the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, North Carolina, in November. The annual event marks the founding of the Marines in 1775.

Kunis learned of the video during a recent interview with her “Friends with Benefits” costar, Justin Timberlake, who urged her to fulfill her patriotic duties. Kunis agreed to the date, saying, “I’ll go.”—AP

NEW YORK—A strap from the guitar Jimi Hendrix burned on stage at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival is being offered by a New York City auctioneer alongside memorabilia from Michael Jackson and Kurt Cobain.

The online Gotta Have It! Rock & Roll Auction runs through July 22.
Gotta Have It! Collectibles Inc. says the seller of the Hendrix guitar strap is the audience member who caught it at the three-day rock concert in Monterey, California.
The auction also includes a guitar smashed by Nirvana lead singer Cobain in 1993, the year before he died. There’s a glove worn by Jackson at a 1997 concert in London. And there’s a dress worn by Katy Perry in her video for “I Kissed a Girl.”
