Carla Abellana opened up about how her five-year battle with hypothyroidism affected her health, saying she is “practically perimenopausal” at 37.

Abellana took to her Instagram page on Sunday, Sept. 23, to share her experience with hypothyroidism which has been the “bane of the past five years” of her life.

“My hormones were nowhere within normal range, cortisol level was extremely high for so long, I was practically perimenopausal at 37 years of age,” she said.

“And despite fasting (more like starving myself already) along with regular and stringent workouts, I was still gaining weight constantly,” she continued.

Throughout her struggle with hypothyroidism, Abellana shared that she sought the help of five doctors to help in dealing with her condition.

“Five years. Five doctors. Numerous tests over the years. Countless medication in all sorts of combinations. Hundreds of thousands of pesos. Nothing seemed to really work long term,” she said, while disclosing that she had to shift to another doctor in October 2023 to help with her diet plan and other related concerns.

In a separate post, Abellana shared that she managed to put her weight under control after five months.

“It took 5 months for the ball to get rolling. But boy was it worth all the trips to his clinic, strict dieting, strong willpower, discipline, concoction of medication and perseverance,” she said.

The actress said she had lost about 18 pounds, as of this writing.

Abellana’s post caught the attention of broadcast journalists Karen Davila and Nelson Canlas, as well as fellow actress Bela Padilla in the comments.
