Do we hear wedding bells?
“Don’t answer that!” a giggly Rhian Ramos jokingly told her boyfriend of three years, politician Sam Verzosa, at his recent 37th birthday celebration.
While the prospect of marriage is still seemingly far-off, the couple has never been happier. In each other’s presence, they said, they find not only inspiration, but also peace of mind.
“Her support is really important to me because it gives me peace of mind. I go out feeling good and I’m excited to go home and see her. She inspires me to do the right things in this world,” the Tutok to Win party list representative said when asked by the Inquirer about the positive impact the actress has on his life.
And that’s the best gift Rhian could give him. Love and peace of mind, really. “[Material] things fade eventually. What we need are things that will last,” said Sam, who also hosts the GMA 7 program “Dear SV.”
Getting along well
More than romantic partners, Rhian and Sam see each other as best friends who can find excitement in the mundane. “We just get along really well. Even the most boring parts of everyday life, like chores, cooking or going to the supermarket, can be super exciting. We enjoy those,” Rhian said.
“We’re excited about the mundane things because we both have exciting lives. It’s a different thing every day, so sometimes it’s nice to just slow down,” she added.
While Rhian maintains a hectic schedule herself, she tries her best to make time and help Sam with his charity project and medical missions. “I’m happy that she’s happy that I’m able to do what I aim to do. I feel that from her … her full support,” Sam said. “I was already this way when she met me … even before politics.”
Entering politics has never crossed Rhian’s mind but she believes in public service and using whatever platform she has for causes other than entertainment.
“Whenever I can, if I make a little extra, or if I have something to spare, I try to help people as much as I can,” she said. “Helping people is one of the things that connected us during the first few conversations we had after we first met.”
Best version of self
Rhian fuels Sam to be “the best version of myself.” But in times when he’s not, he knows that he can always feel safe with her.
“I believe that’s our goal for each other: to be able to tell each other everything without any fear, to be able to share how you feel, your thoughts, even the dark ones,” Rhian told the Inquirer.
“I want him to know that he doesn’t always have to be his best version. Even at the worst version of himself, it’s OK and safe,” she added.
