The animosity between Carlos Yulo’s girlfriend Chloe San Jose, and his parents, Angelica and Mark Andrew, continues to escalate, with the Olympic gold medalist’s father claiming that the content creator allegedly disrespected their family.
Meanwhile, KaladKaren and her non-showbiz partner Luke Wrightson tied the knot in Wrightson’s hometown in North Yorkshire, England.
All these and more, in the latest edition of our show biz news roundup from Sept. 6 to 12.
Chloe San Jose ‘disrespected’ Yulo’s mom
Mark Andrew Yulo, father of Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, revealed screenshots of messages that allegedly meant to expose the “disrespect” the gymnast’s girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, showed to his mom Angelica Yulo.
Mark Andrew reshared the Facebook post of a family friend, one Gerald Fajardo, who is privy to their family situation. Fajardo’s post is a compilation of screenshots from what appears to be a group chat that includes San Jose, her family, and Angelica.
In the photos, San Jose was seen calling Angelica a “coward” for apparently taking a swipe at her via social media posts and comments but was unresponsive when confronted.
She also apparently likened Angelica to an adorable fish whenever she is at the church, and to a villain shark whenever she is at home. Moreover, one of the screenshots shows San Jose and Carlos alluding to a person who is a “thief” and a “liar” via a Facebook post.
In the caption of Fajardo’s post, he also made several claims such as that San Jose belittled Carlos’ family; that San Jose sold her P50,000-worth laptop to the gymnast but was still the one using it; that San Jose pushed everyone away from Carlos including his family; and that San Jose was the reason why Carlos yelled at and accused Angelica of being a “thief” and a “liar.”
Fajardo also addressed San Jose and her earlier statement about how she and Carlos already forgave the gymnast’s family. “Bakit? Kasali ka ba sa pamilya? Pera mo ba ‘yun?”
“Sinubukan niyong humingi ng sorry sa buong pamilya? Kelan ‘yan? Kasi ‘yung sinasabi mong [group chat], magaganda lang nilabas niyong screenshot? Bakit ‘di mo nilabas ‘yung pambabastos mo sa ina niya?” Fajardo added.
Fajardo further confronted San Jose for apparently manipulating Carlos by feeding his heart with anger, in a supposed effort to have the gymnast alone to herself. “Marami ka pang laban na kakaharapin. Hindi laging nasa iyo ang ilaw, hindi laging na kay Caloy ang liwanag. Hindi din laging nakaayon sa inyo ang lahat.”
San Jose airs side
San Jose, addressed the claims made by Yulo’s family against her, stressing she only stood up for herself and the Olympic gold medalist against “toxicity.”
On Facebook, Sept. 6, San Jose shared screenshots that show Angelica alluding to herself and her “hubadera” photos through several posts. This came after Mark Andrew claimed that she was disrespectful to the athlete’s family.
In some of the screenshots, Carlos’ siblings were also seen taking a swipe at an “independent woman” who supposedly pretends to be “unbothered,” but cannot rent a place for herself and relies on free airplane tickets to travel.
Carlos’ relatives appear to share the same sentiment with his immediate family as well, with some of them even saying that the Olympic gold medalist “does not deserve” the wins he earned from his competitions.
“If you’re gonna get mad at me for standing up for myself, stay mad. If you’re gonna get mad at me for breaking generational curse, stay mad. If you’re gonna get mad at me because I reacted to their disrespect and told the truth, stay mad. If you’re gonna get mad at me for standing up for my partner against their toxicity, then stay mad,” San Jose wrote.
“I’m not here to please anyone. I know what I did and didn’t,” she stressed. “Feel free to keep believing whatever you see and read online, it doesn’t matter — I know my truth and so does the people around me, most [especially] mahal Carlos.”
San Jose then acknowledged that their public exchange of differing claims has gotten “boring and overdramatic.”
“The universe has my back. Hence, this would be my last time speaking about this,” she said. “Again, stay mad and good luck with your PR stunts[or] pakulo. Much love.”
Yulo told to apologize for ‘thief’ remark
Yulo‘s family drama further continued when his mother Angelica supposedly wished him ill when the athlete’s father Mark Andrew urged him to apologize for calling her a “thief.”
This was disclosed by San Jose in a reply to the comment made by Mark Andrew to Carlos’s Facebook post on Sept. 4.
“Masaya ako sa narating mo, [anak]. Pero dapat mag-sorry ka sa nanay mo na sinabihan mong magnanakaw. Para luminis ‘yang imahen mo,” Mark Andrew said.
San Jose said in her reply: “Pasensya na po kayo, tito. Alam ko po na hindi po ikaw ang nag-comment nito.” She did not name the person she was alluding to. “Pero kung gusto niyo po talaga ng ganito, [bakit] hindi niyo din po sabihin na sinumpa po siya ni Tita Angge na gagapang si Caloy sa lupa before po siya mag-qualify sa Olympics last year?” she said.
San Jose added that Mark Andrew cheered for Carlos to win so that their family members would not have anything bad to say to him. “Dahil ang sabi niyo po kay Caloy ay marami po kayong naririnig na hindi magagandang salita sa kanila. Matagal na panahon at ilang beses na po kami nag-sorry ni Caloy at nag-try makipag-usap po sa inyong lahat, pero bakit po ganito?”
“Pero wala na po ‘yun tito e. Nakapagpatawad na po kami and we’re always praying for you po,” she added. “God bless us all po. Let’s pray na lang po for healing, guidance and love from Him,” she said.
KaladKaren, Luke Wrightson say ‘I do’
KaladKaren and her longtime beau Luke Wrightson finally said “I do” in the latter’s hometown in North Yorkshire, England.
She announced that she and Wrightson got married on Sept. 8 at Raven Hall County Hotel, a cliff-top wedding venue with the “best overlooking views,” in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England.
KaladKaren was a breathtaking bride in her Francis Libiran tube serpentina gown with a short wedding veil, while her partner looked dapper in his white-and-black suit with a bowtie, as seen on her Instagram post on Sept. 9.
“The Wrightsons, 8th of September 2024. Wedding in the clouds. Luke and I dreamed of a beautiful sunny day in this fantastic cliff-top wedding venue in England. It’s supposed to have the best overlooking views in North Yorkshire,” she wrote. “On our wedding day, ironically, the views were covered by a thick fog! It was almost zero visibility!!!!!! What a one in a million chance!”
Despite the foggy weather, KaladKaren didn’t mind since she nevertheless married the love of her life, while being surrounded by their loved ones.
“Unlucky? Not at all. But marrying the love of my life surrounded by our dearest friends and families … makes me feel the luckiest woman alive! And hey, who else can say they got married in the clouds?! Mr. & Mrs L Wrightson,” she said.
Heart invites aspin Yoda for tea after resto furor
Heart Evangelista extended love to Yoda, the aspin (asong Pinoy) that was denied entry to a Filipino restaurant because of her “breed and size.” She hinted at the desire to “invite” the latter for tea with her pet aspin, Panda.
Evangelista took to Instagram to share a photo of Panda and wrote in her caption, “Aspin Society Elite Pres. [Panda Ongpauco Escudero] Sending LOVE to Yoda.”
In Panda’s Instagram account, which is run by Evangelista herself, she then posted another photo with the caption, “Anong walang breed???! Mas may breeding pa ako sa inyo ha. Loka mga ‘to. Hello sa mga kasali sa Aspin Society Elite. #wagako #aspinsocietyelite #presidentpanda #notodiscrimination.”
Evangelista replied in the comments section now using her Instagram account, “#AspinSocietyELITE of the Elite!! Go anak. Mind your [vocabulary], Sayang ang masters degree.”
“Invite mo na anak si Yoda for high tea!” she added in a separate comment.
Over the weekend, Balay Dako, a restaurant in Tagaytay, drew the ire of the public and its patrons after turning down a customer who wanted to dine there with her pet aspin, Yoda. The restaurant recently issued an apology, asserting that they are a “company that loves animals,” who also needs to ensure the safety of their guests.
Netizens, including the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and actor Cedrick Juan, perceived the incident as a “discrimination” towards the native dogs.
Kris Aquino flies back to PH
After two years of seeking treatment for her autoimmune diseases in the United States, Kris Aquino is back home in the Philippines to seek encouragement from her family as she faces more health challenges in what she now calls the “fight of [her] life.”
A picture posted by Aquino’s official fan account showed Aquino onboard a plane, together with some of her companions, including fashion designer and close friend, Michael Leyva.
While not looking at the camera, Aquino could be seen in the window seat beside an unidentified male. She was wearing a cream hoodie, with a face mask and eyeglasses on. The picture was posted on X by one Merci Cania Gonzales, who has been frequently seen on social media accompanying the Aquinos in California where the actress-host sought treatment for her diseases.
Another picture posted by Gonzales showed Aquino’s companions at the Tom Bradley International Terminal in Los Angeles bound for Manila.
“See you, Manila [Philippine flag],” read the caption of the post.
On Thursday, Aquino also posted a photo of the USA flag, an airplane emoji, and the Philippine flag as she explained the need for “emotional support” from her loved ones back home because she is set to undergo another chemotherapy.
“The reason I decided to go home is because I need to start my second immunosuppressant infusions in 2-3 weeks (it’s a gentler term for chemotherapy). Emotionally, I need the encouragement and unwavering faith my sisters and cousins, closest friends, and trusted team of doctors can provide,” she said.
“Sadly, what was the BATTLE TO IMPROVE MY HEALTH is now THE STRUGGLE TO PROTECT MY VITAL ORGANS. This is now the FIGHT OF MY LIFE,” she added.
Erwan Heussaff denies split with Anne Curtis
Erwan Heussaff said he and his wife Anne Curtis “don’t need to prove anything to anyone” amid claims that they parted ways.
Heussaff took to Instagram on Sept. 7, to share photos of him and Curtis happily eating out in a restaurant, with the caption “Marked safe.”
The content creator continued to explain in the comments section that people should learn how to be “less gullible,” stating that a report with a lot of views does not necessarily mean it’s true.
“Anne and I have never really posted much about each other online, it’s just how we are. We don’t feel the need to prove anything to anyone. But everyone has to work on being less gullible online, information can be weaponized. This wasn’t a big deal, but imagine it’s something that has real-world repercussions. Just because something has lots of views, doesn’t make it real. Take a Facebook detox,” he said.
The celebrity couple had been the center of breakup rumors after speculations on the status of their marriage circulated on social media.
Olivia Rodrigo’s P1,500-‘Guts’ PH show tickets
Olivia Rodrigo surprised her Filipino fans after revealing that tickets to her upcoming show at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan would have a flat rate of P1,500, but concerns were rife about the possibility of scalpers purchasing the tickets in bulk and then reselling them at a higher price.
The Filipino-American Grammy winner announced on her X page that she will hold a special “silver star show” on Oct. 5 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan as part of her “GUTS” world tour.
But the catch is that seats will be assigned at random. Seat locations will be revealed once it will be picked up in person.
According to Rodrigo, this will be her first time in the Philippines, and proceeds will be allotted to her charity, Fund 4 Good Organization. Her official website said the non-government organization is an initiative aimed at “building an equitable and just future for women and girls.”
The singer-songwriter’s announcement led to netizens showing excitement for its cheap price since it’s a “rare case” for concert tickets. Some referred to the upcoming show as Rodrigo’s “homecoming,” while others said it’s proof of her being “proud” of her heritage.
Meanwhile, others appealed to international concertgoers to allow Filipinos to “have this one” chance to see Rodrigo perform, given the cheaper ticket rates.
Ticket hoarding in the Philippines is nothing new, especially with foreign acts, thus the apprehension of concertgoers that scalpers might “hijack” the tickets and sell them to foreign fans or those willing to shell out more.
Her Filipino heritage comes from her grandfather and great-grandfather, who moved to the US on a boat as a teenager. She told Rolling Stone in September 2023 that she always wanted to perform in the Philippines.
