Selena Gomez reveals she can’t get pregnant due to medical issues

American singer-actress Selena Gomez shared she “can’t carry her own children” due to having medical problems that might put her life and the baby in danger.

In an interview with Vanity Fair published Monday, Sept. 9, the “Who Says” singer opened up about her inability to get pregnant, describing it as something she had to “grieve” upon knowing.

“I haven’t ever said this… but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while,” she expressed.

Despite the health struggles, Gomez stated that she is open to embracing other possibilities that would make her a mother. 

“[But] I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people,” she said.

“I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby,” continued the singer.

In May, the award-winning singer-actress said that she had initial plans to adopt and be a single mom before she fell in love with her current boyfriend, producer-songwriter Benny Blanco, who also recently revealed that having kids was his “next goal on the box.”

The “Monte Carlo” actress was diagnosed with lupus in 2015, and she previously spoke about suffering from complications with the disease. She also revealed her bipolar diagnosis in April 2020 during an episode of Miley Cyrus’ Instagram Live show Bright Minded.

A doctor-reviewed article from WebMD stated that bipolar disorder medications have the “potential to cause birth issues,” including neural tube defects and heart defects, as well as developmental delay or neurobehavioral problems. Meanwhile, lupus is a lifelong autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks its own cells or organs.

Meanwhile, Gomez recently reached her billionaire status at age 32, as recently reported by financial data and media company Bloomberg.
