Katseye’s sole Filipino member, Sophia Laforteza, showed her appreciation for Filipino-American pop singer Olivia Rodrigo after she jammed to the latter’s song in a new video and described the act as supporting her “pinsan,” or cousin.
On TikTok, Laforteza uploaded a short clip of her vibing to Rodrigo’s hit song “Drivers License.”
“Syempre susuportahan ko ang pinsan ko (Of course, I’m going to support my cousin) [winking and purple heart emojis],” Laforteza wrote in the video text.
She also donned Rodrigo’s concert tour T-shirt while holding a purple tumbler as prop with stickers all over her face, referencing the theme of the latter’s “Sour” album.
Laforteza has yet to confirm if she and Rodrigo are indeed cousins in real life or if she is just using the term that Filipinos abroad use when they meet fellow Filipinos.
In the comments section, netizens shared their various reactions over the girl group member’s remark.
“Olivia and Sophia are cousins???” asked a netizen.
“Nope! It’s like a joke wherein when they meet other filos [Filipinos] abroad we call them cousins~ even though they’re not HEHE,” replied another netizen.
Given that they are both under the same agency, Katseye recently had an unforgettable backstage encounter with the “Good 4 U” singer.
The six-member global girl group posed for a photo with Rodrigo at her “GUTS” concert tour and expressed their admiration for the Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter.
“What a special night [with Olivia Rodrigo]. We look up to your craft and kindness immensely. Thank you for being such an incredible role model for all of us! SIS [Soft is Strong] for life,” they wrote in their Instagram caption at the time.
Aside from Laforteza, Katseye consists of Lara, Megan and Daniela from the USA; Manon from Switzerland; and Yoonchae from South Korea.
After releasing their first single, “Debut,” in June, the group released their first EP titled SIS (Soft Is Strong) this August. They are expected to come to the Philippines next month for a possible three-day concert or fan meet, as they recently announced on social media.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo just recently wrapped her concert tour in North America. She is currently at the Venice Film Festival to support her boyfriend, British actor Louis Partridge.
