“Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” is set to dive into the emotional and powerful life story of the late actor who was injured in a horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

The documentary film’s trailer was dropped on Monday, Aug. 26, and featured the before and after events in Reeves’ life. The actor found fame for playing Superman in the late 1970s and 1980s until his death in 2004 due to heart failure and enduring his disability for years.

The trailer showed candid interviews from Reeve’s children, Matthew, Alexandra, and Will, as well as footage of the actor with his late wife, Dana, who died in 2006 of lung cancer. It also included interviews from his colleagues in Hollywood, including Susan Sarandon and Glenn Close.

Footages showing his friendship with the late actor Robin Williams were also highlighted in the trailer. Reeves, alongside his wife, became active activists for disability and were the inspiration for the Christopher Reeve and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act 2009.

The late couple also established the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which is “dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by advancing research and improving the quality of life for individuals and families impacted by paralysis.”

From the directors of “McQueen,” Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, the film originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will be shown in cinemas for the first time as it aims “to deliver a moving and vivid cinematic telling of Reeve’s inspiring life story.”

“What is a hero? My answer was that a hero is someone who commits a courageous action without considering the consequences,” Reeve is heard saying in the trailer. “Now my definition is completely different. I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”

“Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” opens in Philippine cinemas on October 16.
