It was Regine Velasquez’s turn to dispel allegations that she and husband Ogie Alcasid are parting ways, saying they would never end their marriage.
Velasquez addressed the breakup rumors when she joined Alcasid on his pre-birthday celebration in the August 24 episode of the noontime show “It’s Showtime,” as she gave a message to the singer-songwriter.
“Gusto ko lang semplangin ‘yung nagsasabi na naghiwalay kami. Maghintay ka diyan ah! Maghintay ka! Kasi alam niyo, mga kaibigan, marriage is difficult. Marriage is already difficult the way it is,” she said. “Pero ‘yung mga tao na who’s trying to make it even more difficult for us, hindi ‘yun maganda. Hindi kami maghihiwalay ever because we love each other.”
(I just want to call out those who said we broke up. Wait for me! Because friends, marriage is difficult. Marriage is already difficult the way it is. But the people who are trying to make it even more difficult for us, it’s not nice. We are never going to break up because we love each other.)
Velasquez said while their “marriage is not perfect,” she reiterated that Alcasid is a “God-centered” husband despite his many career pursuits.
“Our marriage is not perfect. But for me, it is. It’s not perfect, siyempre may mga issue, pero gusto ko lang sabihin na napakabait ng asawa ko. Alam mo kung paano ko alam — he is God-centered. Ang focus niya ay kay God. Marami siyang ginagawa pero ang focus niya ay kay God pa rin. Hence, ako ‘yung nagbebenefit d’un,” she said.
(Our marriage is not perfect. But for me, it is. It’s not perfect. Of course, there are issues. But I want to say that my husband is very kind. Did you know how I found out about it — he is God-centered. His focus is on God. He does a lot of things but he continues to focus on God. Hence, I benefit from it.)
Velasquez then explained that since Alcasid has his sights set on the Lord, this enabled to him to being a good husband and father. She then urged the audience to ignore the false reports about their marriage.
“Dahil mahal niya ang Panginoon, mabait at mabuti siyang asawa at tatay sa aming mga anak. Please, kung meron kayong makitang mga write-ups, wag niyong paniwalaan. Makikita niyo naman kami sa aming social media. We are very close. He’s my best friend,” she said.
(Because he loves the Lord, he’s a good husband and father to our child. If you see any write-ups, please don’t believe them. You see us on our social media. We are very close. He’s my best friend.)
In her birthday message to Alcasid, the singer-actress hoped Alcasid would be successful in his many hats as a singer-songwriter and producer.
“Gusto ko lang maging successful ang lahat ng mga ginagawa niyang projects for other people as a producer… ang prayers ko na hindi siya mapagod kasi ang dami niyang ginagawa (I want him to be successful in his many projects for other people as a producer. My prayer is for him to not be tired because he’s doing a lot),” she said. “In the business, it’s hard to be relevant but I think my husband is able to [stay relevant] because he reinvents himself.”
Alcasid earlier dispelled the split rumors with his wife on his Threads account last August 21, while urging his followers to ignore the false reports about their marriage.
