Padilla earlier drew the ire of some groups and internet users who got offended by his remarks on consensual sex between couples during a Senate hearing, where he expressed his concern about women not being in the mood for sex, despite their husbands having the desire to do so.

He has since apologized for his remarks, but qualified that people should not be too sensitive, and that he never said it was “okay” for husbands to force their wives to have sex.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez-Padilla expressed her support for her husband on social media during the height of the controversy, where she shared a photo of them kissing.
