After almost a decade since her last teleserye, Jolina Magdangal is making a comeback, which made her reflect on her growth as an actress, including the changes in the audience over the years.

In a one-on-one interview with INQUIRER.net during the press junket for drama series “Lavender Fields” on Thursday, Aug. 15, Magdangal said that most things remain the same about her, but noted one change.

“Sa pagiging artista, definitely ‘yung pagiging on time at pagiging kumbaga naka ready ka sa lahat, I think ‘di nagbago ‘yon kasi from noon to ngayon, nireready ko talaga ang gamit, ang lahat ng para sa project lang na ‘yon,” she said.

(As an artist, definitely being on time and being as ready for everything I think have not changed because then and now, I really prepare the equipment — everything for a certain project.)

“Pero siguro sa acting [nagbago], mas na-open ang aking pag-accept ng possibilities na ganitong roles ang ibibigay at ganitong atake ang ibibigay,” continued the actress, who was last seen in the TV series “FlordeLiza” in 2015.

(But perhaps there have been changes in acting — I have become more accepting of role possibilities and the approaches to take.)

Despite not acting for a while, Magdangal has been a mainstay host on the morning talk show “Magandang Buhay” for six years now.

“Ang tagal ko rin sa talk show. Magkaibang magkaiba siya. Iba rin kung paano mo aaralin kapag meron kang iinterviewhin at iba rin kapag pupunta ka sa isang eksena,” she shared.

(I also spent a lot of time hosting. It is quite different. It’s different how you prepare when you have to interview someone and it’s also different when you prepare for a scene in a movie or series.)

To serve as good example

Given that she rose to fame as a cultural figure in the ’90s for her pop music and camp style, the 45-year-old actress weighed in on how different the audience was then and now, stressing that she remains committed to her goal of being a role model to the youth.

“Di ko alam kung ano ba kasi ‘yung ibig sabihin na ‘iba na ‘yung ngayon’ pwede naman na maging iba na ‘yung ngayon pero nandoon ka pa rin sa right path. Gusto ko pa rin ‘yung nakita nila sakin makakatulong sa paglaki nila,” underscored Magdangal.

(I don’t understand whenever they say things are different now. Yes, things can be different now, but you still need to be on the right path or on the right side of things. I want my audience to see something in me that will help them grow up better.)

“‘Yun ang pinaka important sakin, but still gusto ko pa rin mag-adapt kung ano na ‘yung panahon ngayon. Pwedeng pwede natin ‘yang pagsamahin sa totoong buhay,” she added.

(That’s the most important thing to me, but I still want to adapt to what the times are now. We can combine both old and new changes in real life.)

Magdangal will be playing the role of Lily Atienza and will be joined by Jodi Sta. Maria, Janine Gutierrez, Jericho Rosales, Maricel Soriano and Edu Manzano, among others, in “Lavender Fields,” which will premiere on Netflix on Aug. 30.
