Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia’s reunion film “Un/Happy for You” earned a gross of P20.5 million on its first day, which is the biggest opening gross of a local film so far this year.
The movie’s feat was announced by Star Cinema through its Instagram page on Thursday, Aug. 15.
“Thank you for coming back to the cinemas and for making our film the biggest opening gross of a local film this year. Dama namin ang init ng suporta at pagmamahal niyo!” the caption read.
Barretto and Garcia also expressed their gratitude on their respective Instagram pages.
“Kayo ‘to! Thank you so much!” the actress wrote.

“Un/Happy for You,” directed by Petersen Vargas, premiered in local cinemas on Aug. 13. The film tells the story of Barretto’s Zy and Garcia’s Juancho who cross paths again after their painful breakup.
Speaking about how their on-screen partnership works, Barretto said, “We both chose to move forward, to be happy and grateful for that chapter in our lives. I think it’s all about having the right mindset coming into a project and coming together again to do this.”
Garcia, for his part, stated, “We click because we’re on the same page when it comes to giving importance to acting, giving depth to every scene, and being honest with our emotions when we deliver our lines. Of course, the fact that we have a past also helped create that romantic picture of us together in the minds of our viewers.”
Aside from the real-life exes, the movie cast includes Kaila Estrada, Aljon Mendoza, Nonie Buencamino and Ketchup Eusebio.
