Vice Ganda is excited to return to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), as he departed for Taiwan to film his MMFF entry “And The Breadwinner Is…”

Glimpses of the “It’s Showtime” host being interviewed at the airport were captured by Star Cinema on its X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday, August 13. He was also accompanied by the film’s director Jun Robles Lana.

“And the breadwinner is… leaving for Taiwan! Vice Ganda departs for Taiwan to continue filming ‘And The Breadwinner Is…’ together with Direk Jun Lana,” the post read.

In an interview on ABS-CBN News’ YouTube channel, Vice Ganda kept his lips sealed on its storyline but hinted that it would be “very different” from his previous MMFF films.

“Malaking-malaki ang pagkakaiba nito. Iba ang atake ni Jun Lana [sa paggawa ng pelikula]. Malayong-malayo siya but it’s going to be an amazing surprise. Hindi talaga siya ng mga nagawa kong pelikula. Positive ako na magugustuhan ito ng audience,” he said.

(There’s a huge difference between this film and my past films. Jun Lana’s approach to filmmaking is different. It’s very far from what I had done but it’s going to be an amazing surprise. I haven’t done this kind of film before. I’m positive that the audience would like this.)

Vice Ganda admitted that there is pressure for the film to do well. He then clarified that it’s more of a happy kind of pressure since he’s excited to be part of the annual film festival’s fanfare.

“Siyempre, may pressure. Pero masayang pressure. Kasi ang excitement na mapapanood ito sa sinehan, ang excitement na makapag-parade ulit. Ang daming bagay na worth looking forward to this coming Christmas,” he said.

(Of course, there’s pressure. But it’s the happy kind of pressure. Because I can feel the excitement of watching in cinemas and going to the parade again. There are many things worth looking forward to this coming Christmas.”

“And The Breadwinner Is…” is one of the first batch of entries for this year’s MMFF, as it’s set to commemorate its 50th edition. The film also stars Eugene Domingo, Jhong Hilario, Maris Racal, and Anthony Jennings.

Also part of this year’s entries are “Green Bones,” “Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital,” “Himala: Isang Musikal,” and “The Kingdom.”
