Despite not winning Best Supporting Actress at the 40th Luna Awards, Chie Filomeno is grateful to the awards-giving body for recognizing her performance in the film “A Very Good Girl.”

Filomeno earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination in the black comedy film where she was up against her “A Very Good Girl” co-star Angel Aquino, Ana Abad Santos and Iyah Mina for “Third World Romance,” and Cassy Legaspi for “When I Met You in Tokyo.” The award was eventually awarded to Santos.

The actress told reporters on the sidelines of the awards ceremony that she was with Jake Cuenca when she found out about her nomination, saying the actor was “over the moon” with her milestone.

“Sobrang saya niya as in. Magkasama kami noong nalaman namin [‘yung nomination] so [we’re] over the moon (He was really happy for me. We were together when we found out about my nomination, so we’re over the moon),” she said.

Filomeno also said that Cuenca would go out of her way to help develop her acting skills while sharing that he usually reminds her to be “in tune” with her character.

“Grateful ako sa kanya. Alam mo naman kung gaano siya kagaling umarte… nakakatuwang tinutulungan niya rin ako. He’s not scared to share kung anong gusto niya and natutunan niya,” she said. “Hindi siya natatakot ibigay ang advice na hindi mo laging naririnig. [Ang advice niya sa’kin is] aralin talaga ang character mo. It’s more than just the script. Kailangan in tune ka rin with your character.”

(I’m grateful for him. We all know how great he is at acting. It makes me happy he helps me too. He’s not scared to share what he wants and learned. He’s not afraid to give bits of advice you need to hear. What he advises me is to study your character. It’s more than just the script. You need to be in tune with your character.)

When asked what kind of projects she hopes to get, Filomeno wants to take on “really different genres” such as action or romantic comedy.

“I would definitely try something na hindi maarte, alam niyo naman na laging maarte roles ko. But something really different, something really challenging para makita kung gaano [ako] ka-versatile. Siguro action or rom-com, but any, kung ano man ang ibigay sa’kin (I would definitely try someone who’s not dramatic. You know that I always get dramatic roles. But I hope to take on something different, something really challenging so people will see how versatile I am. I guess action or rom-com, but it depends on what would be given to me),” she said.
