Carlos Yulo’s spectacular performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics earned the praise of Filipinos and sports fans all over the world, including some of the biggest names in the Philippine showbiz.

Yulo delivered Team Philippines’ first gold medal after scoring an impressive 15.000 points at the men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise at the Bercy Arena in Paris, France on late Saturday, August 3 (Philippine time). He is the second Filipino athlete to bring home a gold medal after Hidilyn Diaz in 2020.

On his X (formerly Twitter) page, Vice Ganda said Yulo will be granted a “free entrance” at the Vice Comedy Club in Quezon City for his win.

“Congratulations Carlos Yulo for bagging the Gold in Men”s Floor Exercise!!!!!! Maraming salamat sa karangalang binigay mo sa Pilipinas! Pag-uwi mo dumeretso ka sa Vice Comedy Club libre ka na sa entrance may kasama pang nachos at bottomless iced tea! Chozzzz,” he wrote.

(Congratulations Carlos Yulo for bagging the Gold in the Men’s Floor Exercise! Thank you very much for the glory you brought to the Philippines. When you return home, go straight to the Vice Comedy Club. You’re granted a free entrance with nachos and bottomless iced tea. Kidding!)

Meanwhile, Bianca Gonzalez and Jodi Sta. Maria congratulated Yulo for representing the Philippines at the Olympics.

“Waaaah! Ginto para sa Pilipinas! Congratulations at maraming salamat (Gold for the Philippines! Congratulations and thank you very much), Carlos Yulo,” Sta. Maria said.

In a series of posts, Miss Grand International 2020 first runner-up Samantha Bernardo praised Yulo for bringing glory to the country.

“Wow [gold] again for Philippines! Mabuhay ang mga Atletang Pilipino (Long live Filipino athletes! Thank you so much Carlos Yulo,” she wrote. “Mabuhay ka Carlos Yulo at sa buong (Long live Carlos Yulo and the whole) Team Philippines!”

Meanwhile, broadcast journalist Gretchen Ho recalled how Yulo was “frustrated over his performance at the Floor Exercise” at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, saying the athlete allowed his “nerves get to him.”

“By that time, he was already World Champion at his favorite apparatus, the Floor. He let his nerves get to him, and it felt like the biggest sporting stage in the World engulfed the 21-year-old Caloy,” she said.

In Paris 2024, Caloy comes back to the Olympic stage, so much more mature, level-headed, and steady. It was apparent when he didn’t try to do the triple twisties in the qualifying, opting for a safer routine. Yet, he saved that for his final moment on the Floor,” she further added.

The official X page of the newly debuted P-pop group New:ID said Yulo’s win inspired them to do well in their journey.

“Congrats to Carlos Yulo @c_edrielzxs for winning gold and making all Filipinos proud! Your hard work and success inspire us in our journey as a P-Pop group. Let’s continue to bring pride to the Philippines together,” they wrote.

With his historic gold in the Olympics, Yulo is set to receive rewards amounting to millions of pesos from various government institutions and private organizations, such as a P24-million condominium unit promised by a real estate property, and, P10-million from the Philippine Sports Commission under Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.
