After skipping a year, again, the Miss World Philippines pageant will finally crown a new queen on Friday night, July 19, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
It had earlier canceled its 2020 pageant because of the pandemic, while the 2023 postponement was a result of the international Miss World competition’s repeated scheduling changes.
Here are some of the things to expect from the national pageant this year:
- Coronation night will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena. The show may be streamed on a pay-per-view basis.
- Billy Crawford will host the coronation show, together with reigning Universal Woman Maria Gigante, while Reina Hispanoamericana runner-up Emmanuelle Vera and actor Teejay Marquez will serve as anchors.
- Pageant national director Arnold Vegafria earlier said that the show will celebrate Philippine pop music, with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra set to play.
- Singer Johnoy Danao and band The Juans are also set to perform, with P-Pop groups Kaia and Bilib also set to take the stage.
- Reigning Miss World Krystyna Pyszkova from the Czech Republic is also expected to make an appearance. She arrived on Tuesday, July 16, and already graced the national pageant’s charity gala the day after.
- Miss World Organization chairperson Julia Morley will also attend the coronation night.
- Of the 35 candidates introduced in June as official candidates, two have recently backed out from the race — Laguna’s Tanya Francesca Granados and Taguig’s Paola Bagaforo. No reason was given for their withdrawal.
- Gwendolyne Fourniol will relinquish her Miss World Philippines title to her successor, who will also be the first queen to wear the new crown called “Ray of Hope” by Oro China Jewelry.
- Two more winners will be proclaimed, and they will receive the Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas and the Miss Philippines Tourism titles. The respective international competitions of the Miss World Philippines and Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas titleholders are yet to be scheduled.
