Angelica Panganiban revealed that she underwent a successful hip core decompression surgery in hopes of healing from bone tissue death at St. Luke’s Medical Center.
In a vlog on The Homans YouTube channel, Panganiban shared glimpses of her seven-hour surgery last July 7. This came months after she disclosed that she was diagnosed with Avascular necrosis or bone tissue death, a type of disease that affected her hip area.
“Nagkandaiyak-iyak na ako kagabi dahil first time naming mag-spend ng night ni Gregg na hindi kasama si Bean. Napaka-unusual lang na both are together but hindi namin kasama ‘yung daughter namin,” she said, while sharing that she underwent lab tests and scans before her seven-hour surgery.
(I cried last night because it was Gregg’s and my first time to spend the night without Bean. It was so unusual to be together but without our daughter.)
The actress shared that she wasn’t able to eat for two days as a result of her medicines affecting her body’s ability to take food. Despite this, she admitted that she’s more “excited” for her surgery as it would put an end to her bone disease.
“Nasa recovery room na ako, nanghihina at sobrang sakit. Hindi ko ma-explain ang sakit,” she said after her surgery. “Damang-dama ko pa ‘yung maga ng legs ko so medyo nakaka-praning na sana hindi niya tamaan.
“‘Yung pain levels ko naman, maluwag ‘yung balakang ko. May ginhawa na akong naramdaman, finally,” she continued. “Siyempre masakit ‘yung pain from surgery, masakit ‘yung mga muscles ko pero it’s getting better every day.”
(I was already in the recovery room, feeling weak, and my body hurting. I can’t explain the pain. I can still feel my legs swelling so it makes me nervous that it might come back. In terms of my pain levels, my hips feel better. I feel somewhat lighter, finally. Of course, I still feel hurt in my muscles from the surgery but it’s getting better every day.)
Panganiban disclosed that she’s drinking a “low dosage” of pain relievers but needs to undergo three weeks of bed rest after discharge. During her surgery, it was also revealed that her doctors didn’t push through with a hip replacement since she was still young, which led to her opting for a hip core decompression surgery instead.
“Sana hindi na ako umabot sa hip replacement with the help of proper therapy, care, and prayers (I hope I don’t have to get a hip replacement with the help of proper therapy, care, and prayers),” she added.
The actress made her diagnosis public in November 2023, which stemmed from a temporary or permanent loss of blood in the bone tissue.
Panganiban welcomed Amila Sabine, her daughter with Gregg Homan, in September 2022. The pair got engaged a month later.
The couple tied the knot in two ceremonies: a civil ceremony in the United States in December 2023 and a beach ceremony in Siargao in April 2024.
