Rico Yan’s brother, Bobby Yan, said they welcome anyone who wants to visit the grave of the late actor, as he believes that the former won’t turn anyone away, especially the Gen Z fans. This statement comes after Rico went viral on the internet because of the fans who have lately been visiting his grave.
In a statement sent to “Frontline Pilipinas,” Bobby said they would inform the public at once if ever the caretaker of Rico’s grave informs them that the visitors are becoming “bothersome.”
“It’s nothing to be concerned about for now. We welcome po anyone from anywhere. We support all generations. Rico’s heart was for the youth,” he said.
“I imagine Rico won’t turn Gen-Z away at all. If our caretaker says it is getting bothersome to our neighbors or otherwise in (Manila Memorial Park), I shall reach out po at once,” added Bobby.

Despite his death 22 years ago, Rico’s name has created a buzz online after netizens posted his old photos and videos on social media, especially on TikTok, causing some fans to visit the late actor’s resting place in Parañaque.
One video of a netizen visiting Rico’s tomb made the rounds online as he captured himself passionately touching the nameplate and hugging it at one point. In another video a woman visited the grave and sang the theme song of “Got 2 Believe,” one of the last movies that Rico appeared in.
Given the viral videos and photos from visitors, Yan’s grave has been called a “tourist spot.” Some argued that it’s okay to pay a visit to the actor’s resting place as long as it is genuine and not for “clout” or content, or a way to gain followers or likes.
Meanwhile, actress Jessy Mendiola took to Instagram to express her dismay and called out the netizens, urging them to respect Rico’s departed soul.
In March 2002, Rico died from a cardiac arrest caused by acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis while asleep. He was 27 years old.
