Marian Rivera draws laughs after ‘trying her best’ in English translation

A true queen knows how not to take herself too seriously, and trust Marian Rivera to rise to the occasion as she turned a critical moment into an entertaining spectacle after she was asked by a contestant to translate her question from Tagalog to English during the Superbods 2024 Finals night.
In a clip uploaded on X (formerly Twitter), Rivera served as one of the celebrity judges on a local canned food beauty and fitness competition. The Kapuso actress initially asked her question for the Q&A in Tagalog before the male contestant requested if she could translate it to English because he could not understand.
“Dumami ang followers mo sa social media nung naging finalist ka. Paano mo gagamitin ang opportunity na ito kahit na tapos na ang competition na ito,” asked Rivera.
“Could I get English, please?” responded the contestant.
Rivera promptly squared her shoulders and regally addressed the contestant as if he was one of her subjects. “I will try my best. Are you ready for this? Listen very carefully. Here’s my question,” the actress said, drawing guffaws in the background.

The moment between the Kapuso star and the contestant immediately gained traction on social media, with mostly positive remarks.

“Tawang tawa ako kay Marian, please [crying emojis],” said a netizen.
“Wow, on-the-spot translation, ‘yun ah. Tapos tama ang grammar, ang cute ng accent and pronunciation,” commented one X user.

In an ambush interview during the Cinemalaya press conference on Wednesday, July 10, the Kapuso Primetime Queen was asked to give a brief reaction to her now viral moment.
“[laughs] Hindi ko alam. I did my best [laughs],” she told reporters.
Meanwhile, Rivera is set to star in an upcoming 2024 Cinemalaya entry, “Balota.”
