Heaven Peralejo is set to join Ryza Cenon in the upcoming Mikhail Red-helmed film “Lilim,” which marks her first time taking a movie project of the horror genre.

Peralejo’s casting was announced in an exclusive report by US-based entertainment platform Variety on Sunday, July 7, where the actress will portray the role of Issa.

Aside from Cenon, Peralejo will also work with Eula Valdez and Mon Confiado, wherein the movie “boasts a mix of established actors and fresh faces,” per report.

The upcoming film will tell the story of a sister and brother seeking survival in a secluded orphanage amid a period of “social rest and enigmatic disappearances.” However, the orphanage turns out to be a backdrop of “dark cult practices and ancient evils beneath the surface.”

Promovi Studios, one of the production companies behind “Lilim,” shared a teaser of the movie on the same day, showing Cenon and Peralejo living in the quarters of a haunted orphanage.

According to Red, he hopes the movie will portray an image of a “hidden society” protecting itself from “encroaching oppression.” He also hinted the production is “more ambitious” compared to his previous work.

“I wanted to make a film about a hidden society sheltering from the encroaching oppression of the times, only to collapse and fall victim to their own beliefs, a society shackled by fear and by fanaticism, mirroring the very world it tries to escape,” Red was quoted as saying. “It is also my first horror film seen through the eyes of children.”

Cenon was previously announced as one of the leads in the film, where she shaved off her hair to prepare for the role.
