Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) has managed to gather more than 100 of its winners from its 60-year run to open the 2024 competition show Sunday night, July 7, with the most iconic international titleholders from the Philippines sharing the same stage in a massive opening presentation.
Queens crowned in the 60s paraded alongside winners spanning decades, all the way to 2022, at the grand coronation night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at the Araneta City in Quezon City.
The ladies were serenaded by Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, and P-Pop supergroup SB19 singing the pageant’s iconic theme song, with the queens’ images from then and now flashed on the LED panels displayed on stage.
Miss Universe winners Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray were called to the stage one-by-one, and stood together for an epic gathering, which also included Miss International winners Bea Santiago, Kylie Verzosa, and Melanie Marquez. Aurora Pijuan, who was crowned Miss International 1970, however, was called onstage but did not show up.
The first, and so far only, Miss Supranational winner from the Philippines, Mutya Johanna Datul, also made an appearance, and was joined by 2021 Miss Intercontinental Cinderella Faye Obeñita.
The massive assembly of ladies also cheered in jubilation when BPCI Chair Stella Marquez-Araneta was flashed on screen, waving and blowing kisses to the camera.
The epic reunion of Binibining Pilipinas queens was followed by the parade of the 40 candidates this year, who were all wearing silver dresses with sky-high slits. They danced to a mashup of Rihanna’s “Diamonds” and Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds Are Forever.”
Binibining Pilipinas International Angelica Lopez and Bb. Pilipinas Globe Anna Lakrini are set to relinquish their titles to their respective successors at the end of the show. The winners will receive P1 million each.
