Luis Manzano doesn’t mind if Jessy Mendiola will be doing intimate scenes in her future projects, as he pointed out that he’s all for his wife’s growth as an actress.
“Honestly, ako, go!” Manzano immediately said in response, when asked about the possibility of Mendiola doing intimate scenes in her future projects, in a media con for his contract renewal with ABS-CBN on July 2.
The host also shared that he grew up being aware of actors doing intimate scenes, touching how his mother, screen veteran Vilma Santos, would do “kissing scenes and bed scenes” despite her then-marriage to his father, Edu Manzano.
“Lumaki ako na ‘yung mommy ko—who was still married to my dad—gumagawa ng kissing scene or bed scene sa proyekto. It’s part ‘yun ng parcel ng isang actress kung kailangan or hinihingi ng role (I grew up with my mommy—who was still married to my dad at the time—doing kissing scenes or bed scenes in projects. It’s part of the parcel as an actress, as long as it’s needed or requested by their characters),” he said.
Reiterating his point, Manzano pointed out that Mendiola is more wary of doing intimate scenes while noting that seeing his wife “comfortable” with her job is what matters.
“Para sa’kin, si Jessy pa ’yung mas mag-iisip pa [in doing] intimate scenes. But for me, if it’s for your fulfillment as an actress, go. Basta she’s comfortable working, happy ang set niya, by all means (For me, Jessy is more wary and would think twice before doing intimate scenes. But for me, if it’s for your fulfillment as an actress, go. As long as she’s comfortable working and her set is happy, by all means),” he said.

Jessy’s ‘passion’
Shortly after his contract renewal, Mendiola marked her return to the entertainment industry by signing a contract with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. Manzano was seen smiling at his wife on the sidelines when the latter inked her showbiz comeback.
Touching on the topic, Manzano said Mendiola remained passionate about acting despite her five-year break and getting back on the grind “would help her as an individual.”
“Meron pa rin siyang passion and I think it would help her as an individual kapag nagagawa niya ang gusto niya and passion niya. If it completes who she is, makakatulong din ‘yun bilang asawa sa akin and mommy kay Peanut. Kasi masaya siya (She’s still passionate about it. And I think it would help her as an individual if she does what she loves and fulfills her passion. If it completes who she is it helps her be a better wife and mother, by all means. Because she’s happy),” he said.
Manzano also pointed out that he “saw the excitement” in Mendiola’s eyes when she told him that she wanted to return to showbiz.
“Nagagawa niya kung ano ang nasa puso niya… Noong sinabi niya na babalik siya, I can see the excitement in her eyes. Sino ba ako para ipagkait ’yun sa kahit sinong tao (She does what her heart says. When she told me she was coming back, I could see the excitement in her eyes. Who am I to deny anyone of doing something that makes them happy)?” he said.
On the same day, Mendiola said in a separate press conference that it was Manzano’s support that urged her to get back into showbiz.
