Shifty Shellshock, the frontman of the ’90s rap rock band Crazy Town known for their hit song “Butterfly,” died in his home in Los Angeles on Monday, June 24. He was 49.
The death of Shellshock, whose real name is Seth Binzer, was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner through its website. The singer’s cause of death, however, is still under investigation.
According to law enforcement sources of TMZ, Shellshock was found lying on the floor by an unnamed individual who stopped by his house.
The authorities, according to the sources, were supposedly looking into the possibility of drug overdose as there were paraphernalia found near the body of Shellshock, who had been open about his struggles with addiction.
Shellshock founded the band in 1992 alongside his former bandmate Bret Mazur. The group was initially named the Brimstone Sluggers, then was changed to Crazy Town in 1999.
Speaking to TMZ, Mazur said he got to talk with Shellshock a few months prior and that the late singer “seemed upbeat about the future.” Mazur further noted that there were no indications that Shellshock was in a “bad space,” hence his demise was shocking.
Shellshock is survived by his children Halo, Gage and Phoenix.
