Get to know the Miss World Philippines 2024 candidates a little better in a series of videos posted on the national pageant’s YouTube channel.
All 35 candidates in this year’s edition of the national pageant shared snippets of their lives, as well as their aspirations, in individual video entries that the organization posted on Tuesday evening, June 18.
The ladies are competing to become the Philippines’ representative in the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant, whose date and host country are yet to be announced. Also up for grabs is the opportunity to compete in the 33rd Reina Hispanoamericana contest.
Another prize is at stake in the competition, the Miss Philippines Tourism crown currently held by comedienne Herlene Budol. The national organization has yet to announce if an international competition awaits the winner of this national title.
This is the 12th edition of the standalone national search for the country’s official delegate to the London-based Miss World pageant. The Philippine license was previously held by the Miss Republic of the Philippines, Mutya ng Pilipinas, and the Binibining Pilipinas pageants.
The competition returns after skipping a year because of the constant postponement of the international Miss World pageant, making 2022 winner Gwendolyne Fourniol wait far longer than usual to compete in the global arena.
But that was not the first time that the national pageant missed a year. In 2020, the organization did not hold a competition because the Miss World Organization (MWO) cancelled the international contest that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A contest was held in December 2021, but that was also interrupted by a COVID-19 outbreak among the delegates, officials, and staff members. The candidates were sent home, with only the Top 40 ladies asked to return when the pageant resumed in March 2022.
The most recent Miss World competition held in India in February was technically the international pageant’s 2023 edition. Earlier reports said another contest will be mounted this year, but the MWO still has not made any declarations pertaining to the 72nd competition.
Among those aspiring to wear the “Philippines” sash in the yet-to-be-scheduled Miss World pageant are seasoned national pageant contestants Krishnah Gravidez, Rhiana Pangindian, Jasmine Omay, Jeanne Isabelle Bilasano, and Jane Darren Genobisa, along with 2024 Miss Universe Philippines alumnae Patricia Bianca Tapia and Dia Maté.
The 2024 Miss World Philippines coronation night will be held at the Mall of Asia Arean in Pasay City on July 19.
