Pro-RH Bill film wins in South Korea

EDGARDO Roy Jr.’s “Baby Bata”

Eduardo Roy’s “Bahay Bata” won the Blue Chameleon award at the Cinema Digital Seoul Film Festival held recently. The honor comes with a cash prize of KRW 20,000,000 (P743,000).

It’s the fourth international award for the film, which tackles the reproductive health issue as seen through the eyes of an overworked nurse (Diana Zubiri) in an overcrowded maternity ward of a Manila hospital.

“Bahay Bata” previously won in Vancouver (Canada), Deauville (France) and Canary Islands (Spain), according to Roy.

The citation for the Blue Chameleon award read: “[The film] goes back and forth between fiction and nonfiction in an unusual way… It enables us to see the reality of the life of a nation through the examination of an institution.”

Roy was one of the honorees in the 2nd Inquirer Indie Tribute awards last year. Bayani San Diego Jr.
