Teresa Loyzaga turned emotional as she recalled the time she put her son Diego Loyzaga into rehabilitation because of his drug use way back in 2018.

Sitting down on “Fast Talk on Boy Abunda,” Teresa admitted that “part of her died” when she sent her son into a rehab facility for almost a year.

“I’m going to be speaking about it with his permission. I think what people do not know is that I put him in rehab. There’s a part of me that died, but I wanted my son to live, so I had to put him in rehab,” she said.

Teresa claimed that Diego got angry with her decision, but when the drugs left his son’s system, he got to understand why his mother did what she did.

“He wasn’t himself then. We have to understand that na ‘yung mga mahal natin sa buhay, kapag nalulong sa droga, kapag kinausap mo sila, binabastos ka nila. Hindi sila ‘yon. ‘Yun ‘yong gamot. Nu’ng nawala lahat ‘yon, bumalik yung anak ko. Then, naintindihan niya,” she explained.

The “Adarna Adventure” actress detailed the situation when she visited Diego in the facility, sharing how difficult it was that they were not allowed to properly see each other as part of the latter’s healing process.

“Ang tagal naming hindi nagkita, pero ang hindi rin niya alam, bumibisita ako parati sa kaniya, kahit na bawal kaming magkita. That was part of his punishment for him to learn to appreciate home and family,” said Teresa of her son with actor Cesar Montaño..

“Hindi kami nagkita, pero kapag bumibisita ako dun, minsan pader lang ‘yung pagitan namin, nandiyan siya sa kabila. Hindi niya alam, pero napapanood ko siya sa isang maliit na monitor. Ang hirap,” she added.

Teresa asserted that prayers also helped a lot in the recovery of his son, as without them, she also doesn’t know how to handle the struggle.

“And you know what? Prayers, prayers, and never ending prayers and pasasalamat talaga. Dun ako kumapit. Grabe! Kung wala ‘yon, baka ako din, nasa loob. And there are days, iniisip ko, kailangan ko rin yatang pumasok para matuto rin,” she said.

The Kapuso actress remarked that every day may have been a struggle, but it was a learning experience and there are things to be grateful for as they now have a new life.

Teresa is now a grandma to Diego’s 1-year-old daughter, Hailey, whom he shares with partner Alexis Suapengco.
