“At some point, you’ll feel the thirst to veer away from safe roles and move on to the next level,” said actress Bea Alonzo.
For the actress who’s marking her 10th year in the biz, the next level has turned out to be playing Ronaldo Valdez’s kept woman in Star Cinema’s “The Mistress.”
At a recent press con for the film, Alonzo said, “It wasn’t easy.”
The movie trailer shows her in a lip lock with veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez, who is 40 years her senior.
Director Olivia Lamasan said Alonzo had been a bundle of nerves the day the scene was shot. “She was trembling,” the filmmaker said, laughing. “I told her that if she didn’t do the scene right, I’d have them do it again and again.”
Lamasan said Valdez told Alonzo: “Don’t feel awkward… and don’t think I’m taking advantage of you.”
On the Sunday talk show “The Buzz,” the actress said her boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo caught her spaced out after doing the kissing scene.
First partner
“The Mistress” also marks Alonzo’s and John Lloyd Cruz’s 10th anniversary as screen sweethearts.
So what prevented the two from being a couple off-screen? Cruz admitted that he was initially attracted to Alonzo. “But I didn’t pursue her… I wanted to protect the tandem,” said Cruz.
Alonzo said it was all for the best that they didn’t force things: “Our love team might not have lasted 10 years had we ended up together in real life.”
The two teased each other when asked what they’d give each other for their “anniversary.”
With a girlish squeal, Alonzo said: “There’s this pair of two-carat diamond earrings… if he gives me that, I won’t need another present for the next 10 years!”
“I’d settle for a car and a condo unit!” Cruz shot back.
“The Mistress” hits theaters nationwide on Sept. 12.
