Maja Salvador opened up about her birthing journey and revealed that she almost had to undergo surgery due to a complication that caused severe blood loss.

The first-time mom narrated how her labor lasted for 30 hours, 12 hours of which were without epidural (an injection to ease pain), through her Instagram page on Saturday, June 8.

“…[Three] hours of pushing, [then] ended up having an episiotomy and forceps. Two contractions and seven pushes later, we finally welcomed our baby Maria,” she began.

“Immediately had 10 minutes of skin-to-skin contact with her, but biglang nagka-emergency. I had uterine inversion, [kaya] kinailangan nilang kunin sakin si Maria at binigay nila kay Rambo [Nuñez], who was seated helplessly next to my bed,” she recalled, referring to her husband.

Uterine inversion, as defined by Cleveland Clinic, is a “rare but serious complication during childbirth where [the] uterus turns partially or entirely inside out.” If not immediately provided with treatment, such condition “can lead to severe blood loss, shock and even death.”

Salvador said three of her doctors tried to put back her uterus manually, which resulted in about four liters of blood loss and her blood pressure dropping to 60/40.

“Sinabihan na lang ako ng Doula ko na anytime I would have to go to the operating room for surgery. That time sabi ko na lang sa sarili ko na I can’t do anything anymore. Ubos na ubos na lakas ko,” she continued.

“I started praying Hail Mary, paulit-ulit kahit wala na akong lakas. And miraculously, after their last attempt, one of the OB GYN succeeded in repositioning my uterus. AMEN!” she exclaimed.

Salvador then expressed her profound gratitude to the medical staff, her loved ones and to Nuñez who cared for her during her “challenging journey.”

“Recovering now. Ang swerte kong kasama ko ang pamilya ko dito sa Canada,” she added. “To My Maria, everything is worth it! I love you, anak.”
