Simon Cowell announces search for next One Direction

Television talent show judge Simon Cowell aims to replicate the success created by mega boyband One Direction, as he announced that he’s set to hold auditions for his next superstars.
Cowell, known as one of the executives who helped form One Direction, launched a billboard in the United Kingdom calling for the candidates for his next boyband. “I need you!” he wrote on his Instagram caption.
In a statement released to the press, the “X Factor UK” judge acknowledged the need of the fans for a new boy band that will come close to the phenomenon that One Direction created.
“Every generation deserves to have a superstar boy band, and I don’t think anyone can match One Direction over the past 14 years. The industry is now more focused on solo artists,” he said.
The 64-year-old executive remarked that he knows there are possible outcomes that will happen in this search—to make it or fail.

“The risk is high, and I won’t know what will happen later. Maybe we will give birth to a great group, or we will fail,” he said.
“What if no one comes for an audition? It feels awkward. There is no guarantee for success because everything can happen, but that’s just a fun thing for you, and that’s why I did it,” continued Cowell.
The “Britain’s Got Talent” judge has also put up a website for candidates to send out their applications and learn more about the auditions.
Cowell’s quest to find the next One Direction is scheduled to take place in July. According to some reports, the audition will be made into a documentary series to record the history he might make if he finds 1D’s successor.
Formed in 2010, One Direction is composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and previously Zayn Malik until his departure from the group in March 2015. The group went into an indefinite hiatus the following year.
