Marvel star Evangeline Lilly announced that she’s stepping away from acting, as she affirmed that she’s now ready and happy to embark on a new journey away from the fame and wealth that is Hollywood.
The 44-year-old actress announced her retirement on Instagram on Tuesday, June 4 (EST), with a 2006 video of her talking on the beach about her hopes for the future.
“I am terrified to admit this to the rest of the acting world, but ideally, 10 years from now, I’d like to be a retired actress, and I would like to have a family,” she said in the clip.
“And I’d like to be writing and potentially influencing people’s lives in a more humanitarian way,” the actress added, showing a list that she has now ticked off all the things she mentioned in the video.
The latter part of the video featured footage of Maya Angelou talking about life and the desire to do other wonderful things that are different from what they have been accustomed to, where Lilly said, “perfectly articulating how she feels about life now.”

In her caption, Lilly said stepping away from Hollywood can be scary, and she might see the need to return someday, but now she is firm about exploring the new path that awaits her.
“Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment,” she wrote.
“I might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong. A new season has arrived, and I AM READY…and I AM HAPPY,” concluded the caption.
Lilly rose to fame when she starred as Kate Austen in the science fiction series “Lost.” Her most recent known role is as Hope van Dyne in the Ant Man franchise of Marvel Studios. She shared a daughter and a son with her longtime partner, “The Hobbit” actor Norman Kali.
