Actresses Heart Evangelista and Mariel Padilla were seen joining forces as they recently held the first meeting of the Senate Spouses Foundation of the Philippines alongside the other wives of the current senators, following the installation of Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero as new Senate president.

Evangelista is the new head of the foundation, a position that is traditionally bestowed on the spouse of the incumbent Senate president.

Mariel, being the wife of Sen. Robin Padilla, also has a seat in the foundation.

The Senate Spouses Foundation conducts charitable missions and humanitarian projects alongside the legislative work of senators.

On Instagram, the Kapuso actress posted a video of the highlights of their first meeting as she teased that they are now ready to continue the civic work of the foundation.

“Our very first meeting, and as they say, coming together is just the beginning. Excited to get down to work! Thank you for the warm welcome, fellow Senate spouses. Ready to honor the challenge of working together and find ways to make our communities better and stronger,” the fashion influencer wrote in the caption.

Evangelista succeeded the post vacated by Audrey Tan-Zubiri, the wife of former Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Meanwhile, Escudero shared during the Kapihan sa Senado forum that his wife “panicked” and teared up as she didn’t know that she would also be handling her new responsibility.

“Nagtatanong siya, hindi daw niya alam, hindi daw niya kabisado. Sabi ko, ako rin naman, hindi ko alam, hindi ko kabisado. Sabi nya, ‘E ikaw ang tagal-tagal mo na dyan, mundo mo yan.’ Sabi ko, ‘Senador, oo, pero Senate president hindi, kaya panay ang pa-briefing ko,’” he said.

The politician said he advised his wife to not overthink about the job but just to let go of pressures and do what she can.
