Vincent “Vince” Tañada, director of the 72nd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards, appeared to address the controversial snub of the awards-giving body toward screen veteran Eva Darren.
Aside from being the director of the recent awards night, Tañada also served as one of the presenters in the ceremony, which was held at the Manila Hotel last Sunday, May 26. The filmmaker is known for his work in the films “Katips” and “Ako Si Ninoy.”
“Haters (are) gonna hate. Regardless of what you do. So just move on and live your life to the fullest,” Tañada said in a now deleted Facebook Story, posted on Monday, May 27. While he has taken down his post, many netizens have taken screenshots of it.
In a post by content creator, lawyer Jesus Falcis, Tañada “and his group” are accused of taking control of the recent FAMAS. The organizers, however, have yet to confirm nor deny the claim, as of this writing.
The recent FAMAS awards came under fire after Darren’s son Fernando de la Peña called out its organizers for her “last minute removal” from the ceremony even though she was tapped as one of the presenters.
FAMAS apologized to Darren for “replacing” her with Sheena Palad hours later, saying the production staff couldn’t locate her at the event. De la Peña had since accepted their apology but he reiterated that the actress was seated “front and center” with Marissa Delgado and Divina Valencia.
Who is Vince Tañada?
Tañada is by no means a newbie in the entertainment industry.
A 2019 interview with LIFESTYLE.INQ, described him as “the bad boy of Philippine theater,” at least according to his detractors.
Tañada chose to carve his own niche in an industry where he hitched his own wagon — entertainment. He first tried his hand in theater and founded the Philippine Stagers Foundation, to becoming a producer, director, and actor, on top of being a writer and singer-dancer.
Over the years, he gained attention online for his controversial remarks, but he nonetheless stuck to his guns.
His body of work, however, speaks volumes about his dedication to his craft.
