After Boy Abunda said that Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo’s breakup shocked him the most in his entire career, and quoted Padilla as saying in a past interview that forgiveness was worse than betrayal, a friend of Padilla’s mother, Karla Estrada, called the talk-show host out, saying the actor never said that.

On Instagram story, Estrada’s friend, Armand Cruz, shared a screenshot of Abunda’s recent interview with Luis Manzano and wrote, “Just for clarification, it wasn’t DJ’s answer; please note. Thank you.”

The screenshot circulated on X (formerly Twitter), and Padilla’s fans shared a video of Abunda’s interview with Padilla that took place during the pandemic, where the former asked the latter, “In a relationship, what’s worse than betrayal?”

Padilla answered, “‘Yung maiwanan ka (to be left behind),” contrary to Abunda’s recent statement in his interview with Manzano, where he said he remembered the Kapamilya actor’s answer at the time: “The worse than betrayal is forgiveness.”

In the interview, the “Hows of Us” actor remarked that being left behind was worse than betrayal, especially if the person he loves would no longer come back.

“Maiwanan ka ng taong mahal mo pa at nagmamahal kayo at maunahan ka niya. ‘Yun ang sabi ko, baka di ko kaya ‘yon. Traydurin man ako o ibetray, it’s part of love, it’s part of the relationship, parte ng buhay natin ‘yon. Pero ‘yung hindi mo na kayang ibalik kasi nawala na, pinaka masakit,” underscored Padilla.

After his answer, Abunda asked a hyptohetical follow-up question about whether Padilla was one to forgive if he’d been betrayed in the relationship.

“Yes. I will not move on. Hindi ako makakamove on sa sarili ko, not for us. Kung sakaling may ganon sa isang relasyon, ‘pag ako ay trinaydor at may ginawang mali, kaya kong patawarin ‘yung tao na ‘yon kasi para sakin rin ‘yon,” answered Padilla.

“Isa pa Tito Boy, that happened to me before, at si Kathryn pinatawad ako. Nagkamali ako before. I was a kid. I was stupid. And still tinanggap niya ako, at tinanggap niya ako ng buo,” added the actor.

Abunda referenced this 2021 interview in his recent appearance on “Luis Listens” when he was asked about which celebrity breakup shocked him the most to this day, and he answered Padilla and Bernardo’s split because “he thought it was going smoothly” after his old interview with Padilla.

“In that interview, Luis, tinanong ko si Daniel, what is worse than betrayal? I remember the question. What is worse than betrayal? Ang ganda-ganda ng sagot, ‘yun ang takeaway ko dun sa pag-uusap na ‘yon. Sabi niya, being forgiven,” shared Abunda.

“Isipin natin. Totoo ‘yun. ‘Yung to be forgiven na parang, ‘Wow, naintindihan ako, napatawad ako, pagkatapos ng kasalanan ko.’ I realized that. So, having come from that interview, akala ko, it was going to go smoothly. Hindi pala. It was a misread,” he continued.

Padilla and Bernardo separately confirmed the end of their almost 12-year relationship on Nov. 30, 2023, via an Instagram post.
