Almost a year after her Makati brawl incident, Awra Briguela asked for forgiveness from her family and the people involved in it, saying she will carry with her the lessons she learned for the rest of her life.

Briguela, who goes by the pronouns she/her, penned an open letter through her Instagram page on Tuesday, May 7, in which she began by addressing her family.

The actress apologized to her parents for not having the courage to face her problems with them and instead opting for a temporary solution.

“Alam kong hindi naging madali sa inyo na makita at mapanuod ako sa sitwasyong hindi maganda,” she said. “Patawad kung na dismaya ko kayo sa maraming bagay. Patawad kung nagbago ako at nag-iba ang ugali ko.”

“Alam kong hindi magiging madali pero pipilitin kong magbago at susubukan kong ayusin ang mga desisyon ko sa buhay,” she continued. “Ang tanging hiling ko lang sa ngayon ay nawa’y sana ‘wag kayong mapagod na bigyan ako ng pagkakataon magbago at bumawi sa lahat ng pagkakamali ko at ang pagkakataon na ‘to ay hinding hindi ko na sasayangin.”

Briguela then addressed “the ones who were involved” without mentioning the incident. She further noted that they had settled things privately, and said she’s grateful for being given the chance to do so.

“To the ones who were involved, I would also like to humbly ask for your forgiveness. The mistakes and all the damages that were done was mine and I am willing to take accountability and responsibility,” she admitted. “[I] will take all of these as a lesson that I will carry for the rest of my life.”

Briguela also expressed regret as she lamented how she let her supporters down, vowing to “correct, fix and own up to [her] mistakes.”

“I know it will take a lot of time for you all to forgive me, but please do know that l’m taking my time as well to forgive myself,” she stated.

Concluding her letter, Briguela said sorry to herself for letting her emotions consume her.

“l’m sorry we lost our spark at some point [in] our life and l’m very very sorry [because] I didn’t take care of ourself. All of these we’re such a real nightmare and I don’t want to let the fear win again,” she said. “This definitely served as a big big lesson for me.”

Briguela was arrested in June 2023 after getting into an altercation with several individuals at a bar in Poblacion, Makati. She was released from custody a month later.

The actress earlier opened up about the incident as well and declared that she was “getting better and stronger” after owning up to her mistakes.
