Almost a year after Awra Briguela was involved in a brawl in Makati, the actress said she is in a better state while pointing out that she “owned up to [her] mistakes.”

In June 2023, Briguela, who goes by the pronouns she/her, was arrested after getting into an altercation with Mark Christian Ravana and his friends at the Bolt Hole Bar in Poblacion, Makati. She was released from custody a month later.

For the first time, the actress shared how the incident affected her in Vice Ganda’s “My SpaghetTEA with Awra” vlog on Thursday, May 2, when asked how she was doing after that.

“Nasangkot ka sa isang insidente na pinag-usapan ng buong Pilipinas. Kumusta ka na ngayon?” Vice Ganda asked Briguela. (You were involved in an incident that was talked about in the whole country. How are you doing now?)

“I’m okay. I’m getting better and getting stronger… I owned up to my mistakes,” she said in response.

The “It’s Showtime” mainstay host noted that her ward was subjected to “judgments” after the incident, without considering how much it impacted the latter. She then asked about its effects on the actress at the time.

“Ako ‘yung taong na hindi kayang magpakita ng weakness ko sa mga taong mahal ko. After what happened, noong nakauwi ako, siyempre umiyak na ako. Hindi ko na talaga kaya,” said Briguela. “Noong nakulong ako, parang hindi ko pa rin siya ma-realize na nangyayari na sa’kin ‘yun.”

(I’m the type of person who doesn’t show weakness to my loved ones. After what happened, when I got home, of course, I cried. I couldn’t handle it anymore. When I was arrested, I could not realize that it was happening to me.)

Briguela also admitted her past altercation was something she didn’t expect, although she confessed that she would often enjoy the nightlife to “forget her problems.”

“Noong nangyari ‘yun, hindi ko inexpect kasi YOLO [you only live once] ako n’un. I party almost every day. Sumobra talaga. Super gimikera, I just want to have fun and [kalimutan] ang mga problema. In short, tinatakbuhan ko ang problems ko. Hindi ko siya hinaharap. Noong nangyari siya sa’kin, hindi ako makapaniwala,” she said.

(It was something I didn’t expect to happen because I had a “you only live once” mindset. I partied almost every day, but it was too much. I enjoyed the nightlife too much. I just wanted to have fun and forget my problems. In short, I ran away from my problems. I was not facing them. When it happened, I couldn’t believe it.)
