Singer-actor Lee Jun-ho is adding another series to his filmography after he was confirmed as the lead of the upcoming K-drama “Cashero” which centers around a neophyte superhero.
Lee’s casting was confirmed in a release by a Korean production company on Thursday, April 18, where he posed with his co-stars Kim Hye-jun, Kim Hyang-gi, and Kim Byong-chul. The Korean actors were seen holding photos of the script, with the “S” in the title notably changed to an American dollar sign.
“Cashero” is inspired by a webtoon of the same name, which “uniquely combines heroism with a candid exploration of socio-economic challenges, engaging audiences with its inventive plot and relatable characters.” The K-drama is directed by Lee Chang-min, while Lee Jane and Jeon Chan-ho took charge of the storyline.
The 2PM member will star as the titular Kang Sang-woong in the series, whose superpowers grow according to his “financial means.”
“Sang-woong is a former civil servant whose new powers are tied to his wealth, adding a layer of complexity to his dream of a better life. His transformation into this relatable hero is highly anticipated by fans,” the release added.
Hye-jun will star as Kang’s girlfriend Min-sook while Byong-chul will take on the role of Byun Ho-in. Hyang-gi, on the other hand, will star as Bang Eun-mi.
Lee first gained attention after winning the Korean talent contest “Superstar Survival” in 2006. He competed in another show “Hot Blood Men” two years later, which eventually formed the K-pop boy group 2PM.
He debuted as 2PM’s main vocalist and lead dancer in September 2008, and the K-pop boy group went on to be one of the biggest names of K-pop’s 2nd Generation.
Apart from singing, he starred in the series “King the Land,” “The Red Sleeve,” and “Confession.”
