KEAN Cipriano: Two worlds
I have not read Angelica Panganiban’s blogs/posts, but according to some colleagues, it seems that somewhat bitter statements pertain to her ex, Derek Ramsay.
Just last week on her Instagram post (which I printed in a previous column), Angel could not contain her joy as she described the perfect Sunday she had with John Lloyd Cruz. If her heart is truly happy now, there should be no more room left for ill feelings.
Then again, only Angel and Derek know why they broke up. Derek has only good words to say about Angel and he wants wonderful memories to stay that way.
Since Derek is still in London, I asked his manager, Jojie Dingcong, about his sentiments. “It’s hard to assume,” Jojie said. “But they’re really about Derek, I know he’s a gentleman and will handle the matter properly.”
Wouldn’t it be better for Angelica to go “derek” to the point? Some questions are better left unanswered, but not those pertaining to love and goodbye.
Ate Guy on cam
At TV5’s relief distribution for flood victims, a production assistant told me they were so touched when Nora Aunor said, “No need to focus the camera on me. What’s important is the evacuees get to see me. So, in my own little way, I could cheer them up.”
But of course, the camera loves Ate Guy so it follows her wherever she goes, whether she likes it or not.
Fresh take
We at the Cinema Evaluation Board gave Star Cinema’s “The Reunion” a B rating. I was pleasantly surprised that it is not the typical coming-of-age movie.
Kudos to director Frasco Mortiz for his fresh take on an old theme. There are cheesy moments, but not to the point of being corny. Though there are too many mishaps in the story, they are pulled off creditably because the cast members complement each other.
Their love stories, interwoven with Eraserheads’ hit songs, have maximum impact. The vibe is hip and cool. If you don’t get the punch lines, you’re probably too old.
Good chemistry
One of the lead stars in “The Reunion” is Callalily’s frontman, Kean Cipriano who portrays a struggling musician. His chemistry with screen partner Bangs Garcia is undeniable. Too bad Bangs has a boyfriend (a bar owner).
Asked if he would pursue Bangs if she were single, Kean said in Filipino: “As long as no one gets hurt, that’s OK.”
On being a singer and an actor at the same time, he said: “Though singing is my life, I also enjoy acting so I find fulfillment in giving both my 100 percent.” Kean lives in two different worlds, with equal passion.
